We list household trash fees for 135 facilities in 43 counties. 29 charge a flat rate for a car or pickup, shown in the posted fee column. 32 charge by weight only, and at those a 500 lb load works out to between $8.99 (American Avenue Disposal Site, Fresno County, rates dated July 1, 2024 (the county's newest posted sheet)) and $68.64 (San Francisco Transfer Station, San Francisco County, rates dated not dated), with a middle value of $27.31. 45 sites post a $0 starting price for household trash, mostly for county residents and often with a limit. Estimates use each posted rate and minimum only; surcharges at the scale are not included.

How much does it cost to dump a pickup load of trash?
It depends on the county and on weight. Where a site posts a per-ton rate, a 500 lb load costs between $8.99 and $68.64 across the 32 weight-only sites in this table, middle value $27.31. Another 29 sites charge a flat rate for a car or pickup; the posted fee column shows it.
How much does a pickup load weigh?
We do not publish a typical weight, because it depends on what is in the bed: a load of furniture weighs far less than a load of roofing or dirt. That is why the table shows 500 lb and 1,000 lb, and the calculator lets you enter your own weight.
Why is the estimate different from what I paid?
The estimate is the posted per-ton rate times the weight, with the posted minimum applied. Scales can add fuel, environmental or uncovered-load fees, and some sites round weights. Rates may also have changed since the date shown.
Where can I dump trash for free?
45 sites in this table post a $0 starting price for household trash, mostly for county residents and often with a limit (a number of bags, or cubic yards per day). Some are covered by a yearly county fee. Check the facility page for who qualifies.
Are these prices verified?
They are copied from each facility's or county's own rate sheet, with the date shown in the last column, checked October 23, 2026. None are verified by phone yet.
