🗑️ Tampa Trash Pickup
Who collects in Tampa, Florida, how to find your pickup day, bulk item pickup, holiday delays and what it costs. Checked October 31, 2026.
⚡ Quick Answer
In Tampa, residential trash is collected by City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management, Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management (New Tampa). Pickup days depend on your address, so use the official lookup (My Collection Schedule (address lookup on the Collection Days and Times page; also the Tampa Trash and Recycling App)) to find yours. Questions: (813) 274-8811. Bulk item pickup: Annual S.W.E.E.P.

Checked October 31, 2026 against the city's and its hauler's own pages. We never print a pickup day for a whole city, because it changes by street.
🗓️ How Pickup Works
Enter your address in My Collection Schedule. Garbage (blue carts) is collected twice per week, recycling (green carts) once weekly and yard waste once weekly. Place carts at the curb with 3 feet of clearance on all sides the night before or no later than 6:00 AM on collection day; collection may go into the evening. Remove carts by sunset on collection day and store them out of street view.
City crews collect for City of Tampa utility customers and fees are billed on the City utility bill. City pages say New Tampa residents are served by Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management, (813) 272-5680, and S.W.E.E.P. is not available there.
| Cart | Sizes | How often |
|---|---|---|
| 🗑️ Trash (blue) | 95-gallon (the FAQ calls it the "standard 95-gallon garbage container") | twice per week |
| ♻️ Recycling (green) | Not printed | once weekly |
🛋️ Bulk Item Pickup
- 💵Cost: Annual S.W.E.E.P. pickup: no additional charge up to 10 cubic yards. Special pickup: $19.03 per cubic yard, 1 cubic yard minimum (rate sheet effective October 1, 2026), billed on the utility bill. McKay Bay drop-off: "no additional charge" for many items with an active residential account; some charges may apply.
- 📞How to book: S.W.E.E.P. (Solid Waste Enhanced Environmental Program): each eligible household (active residential solid waste account, single-family or four units or less) gets one prescheduled bulk collection per year. Use the Set Out Deadline Lookup on the S.W.E.E.P. page to find your Sunday clean-up date; items can go out no earlier than five days before and must be curbside "no later than 8 p.m. on your Sunday S.W.E.E.P. clean-up date," in one pile on the right-of-way in front of your home. Outside that date, schedule a special curbside bulky pickup by calling (813) 274-8811 or through Tampa Connect. Residents with active accounts can also drop large items at the McKay Bay Scale House.
- 📏Limits: S.W.E.E.P. piles under 10 cubic yards; larger piles may incur extra disposal fees. Up to four passenger tires; railroad ties cut to 4 feet. Not accepted: building materials, electronics, household hazardous waste, gas cylinders, metal drums, boats, and grass clippings and leaves. Yard waste (weekly): 32-gallon max reusable containers, paper bags or bundles tied with natural fiber twine, under 4 feet long, under 40 lbs, 16 inches or less in diameter; no plastic bags, including compostable plastic.

🎄 Holiday Delays
FAQ: "The city holiday calendar determines our service availability" and "during holiday weeks we cannot guarantee service twice per week"; service is still guaranteed at least once per week. No holiday list is printed on the solid waste pages.
🌀 Hurricanes and Storm Debris
Before storms: "store all containers and large items in a secure location." After a storm, storm debris goes at the curb in separate piles (vegetative debris, damaged household items) with 3 feet of clearance, separate from regular garbage, yard waste, recycling and S.W.E.E.P. items, not blocking the roadway or storm drains. Trees and large limbs cut into 4 ft lengths or smaller; tree stumps over 100 lbs and household hazardous waste are not accepted. The debris page currently reflects the 2024 storm season ("Clean-up will conclude on Friday, December 20, 2024").
