  • Santa Barbara County runs two public transfer stations on one rate sheet effective July 1, 2026: South Coast in Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez Valley near Los Olivos. Trash is $42 for up to 500 pounds or $142 a ton, and residential mattresses are free. Tajiguas Landfill is closed to public dumping.
  • Santa Maria and Lompoc run their own landfills. Santa Maria charges $25 for up to 300 pounds; Lompoc charges $18 a car and takes waste from the Lompoc Valley only. New Cuyama and Ventucopa have small free transfer stations for local residents, open two or three days a week.
  • Call ahead. Rates are set at the scale and many add fuel or environmental surcharges.
  • Bring ID and proof of address if you want resident rates or a free mattress drop-off.
  • Separate your load. Mixed loads usually pay the higher rate.
