โ“ Common Questions

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in my driveway?

Usually the street rules are what trigger a permit. Concord, for example, says a dumpster on private property needs no permit or fee from its Engineering Division. Other cities may differ, and HOAs can have their own rules, so ask.

Who gets the dumpster permit, me or the rental company?

It depends on the city and the company. Ask the company when you book; some handle it and add the fee to your bill.

How much is a dumpster permit?

In the cities we checked: Concord $333 for one week, San Diego $176.57 per month plus a $87.68 processing fee, and Asheville a $100 application fee plus $50 for 1 to 7 days.

Where do these rules come from?

Each city's own page, linked on its card and read October 29, 2026. Rules and fees change, so check the city page before the dumpster arrives.
