🗑️ San Diego Trash Pickup

Who collects in San Diego, California, how to find your pickup day, bulk item pickup, holiday delays and what it costs. Checked October 31, 2026.

⚡ Quick Answer

In San Diego, residential trash is collected by City of San Diego Environmental Services Department. Pickup days depend on your address, so use the official lookup (Find Your Collection Schedule (Collection Map Lookup)) to find yours. Questions: 858-694-7000.

Checked October 31, 2026 against the city's and its hauler's own pages. We never print a pickup day for a whole city, because it changes by street.

🗓️ How Pickup Works

Trash is collected weekly and recycling every other week, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Organic waste (green bin) is collected weekly. Bins must be set out at the curb or alleyway by 6 a.m. Starting July 1, 2026, the City only collects from a City-provided gray trash bin.

City crews serve about 225,000 eligible residential customers. Businesses and privately serviced residences use approved private franchise haulers (city list: https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/business-multi-family-recycling.pdf).

🎄 Holiday Delays

When a holiday falls on a collection day, collection shifts one day later for the rest of the week (for example, a Tuesday holiday moves Tuesday pickup to Wednesday, and Friday pickup moves to Saturday). Holidays named: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
