🗓️ How Pickup Works

The City publishes a Residential Collection Days Map (PDF) and two schedules, City Pick-Up and Athens Pick-Up. Contact the 311 Call Center to find out who services your area and your day(s) of service.

The City's Public Works Solid Waste Division manages all City residential trash services. Since July 1, 2023, areas including La Sierra, University and Orangecrest are serviced by Athens Services under contract with the City. The City says to dial 3-1-1 if you are unsure who provides your service.

🛋️ Bulk Item Pickup

• 💵Cost: Described by the City as FREE curbside pickup services.
• 📞How to book: Call the City at (951) 826-5311 to book an appointment. Set items at the curb, not in the street, by 5:30 am on pickup day; not more than 24 hours before the appointment. Cancel or reschedule before the close of the previous business day or you lose one of your two appointments for the year.
• 📏Limits: Two appointments per year. Five items per appointment; three bags of no more than 20 pounds each count as one item, up to 15 bags. If the driver takes more than five items, a second appointment is deducted. No more than five mattresses per appointment, fully wrapped in plastic or bagged. Rugs and carpet max 4 ft x 4 ft, rolled and tied. Yard waste tied in bundles up to 18 inches in diameter and 36 inches long; no large limbs, trunks or stumps. Water heaters and pool pumps must be fully drained.

🎄 Holiday Delays

City Pick-Up: holidays occurring on a scheduled service day will result in a one-day delay, except Wednesday holidays. Athens Pick-Up: holidays occurring Monday through Friday will result in a one-day delay for each day following the holiday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, there will be no delay. Holidays named: New Year's Day, MLK Day, Lincoln's Birthday, President's Day, United Farmworkers Day (observed), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

💵 What Residents Pay

Copied from the city or hauler rate page. Rates usually change once a year.

♻️ Recycling

Rinse recyclable food and beverage containers before placing them in the blue barrel. Bag regular trash before it goes in the brown barrel. No medical sharps in curbside containers. The City provides the first three barrels: one each for trash, green waste and recyclables.
