Checked November 1, 2026 against the city's and its hauler's own pages. We never print a pickup day for a whole city, because it changes by street.
🗓️ How Pickup Works
Enter your address in the pickup schedule lookup (new accounts can take up to five days to appear). Garbage and recycling are collected once a week on the same day. Yard waste and bulky items are collected every other week on your Red or Blue week (for example, Red Monday or Blue Friday); a Red/Blue calendar is online and a printed Customer Service Guide is mailed by January 1 each year. The guide says to set bins out the night before or by 6:30 a.m., no earlier than the day before, and return them no later than the day after service. Bulky items and yard waste go out no sooner than the weekend before your pickup date.
"The City is the exclusive provider of waste collection services" inside city limits, excluding recycling and construction and demolition debris (the exclusivity note; residential recycling is still collected on the City's weekly schedule). Unincorporated Leon County is not covered by this record.
| Cart | Sizes | How often |

🛋️ Bulk Item Pickup
- 💵Cost: Regular bulky pickup: "Furniture, mattresses, and small appliances are considered bulky items" and are collected at no charge (2026 Customer Service Guide). The rates page also prints a Special Residential Pickup charge of $110.46 per 1/4 hour plus disposal costs and associated fees, but no effective date.
- 📞How to book: Bulky items are collected every other week on your Red or Blue week. For items beyond regular service, submit a Special Pick Up Request (Residential) online. Items that cannot go to the curb and household hazardous waste can go to the City's bi-annual Cash for Trash events; the City does not pick up hazardous waste.
- 📏Limits: No bulky size or quantity limit printed. Yard waste: large limbs under six feet long and no more than four inches in diameter; piles no larger than six feet long, four feet wide and four feet high.

🎄 Holiday Delays
"When a City holiday falls during the week, collection will slide forward one day from Monday through Saturday" (2026 Customer Service Guide). The holiday page says "Official city observed holidays can affect waste management pickup schedules" and lists 12 holidays without dates. Holidays named: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Emancipation Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Election Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Day after Christmas.
🌀 Hurricanes and Storm Debris
From the City's "How to Sort Storm Debris for Pickup" (May 14, 2024): separate piles by type and do not mix bulk items or household trash with storm debris or yard waste. Place debris behind the curb, not in the roadway; do not lean or stack it on trees, poles, fire hydrants, storm drains or other structures, or set it under low-hanging wires or tree limbs. Normal size limits are temporarily lifted. The City's storm debris flyer (undated) adds: debris behind the sidewalk will NOT be picked up; stage only storm-related debris at the curb ("This is NOT the time to dispose of old appliances, bedding, furniture, etc."); do not bag loose debris; bags of garbage cannot go at the curb; regular collection schedules are suspended during the recovery phase; tree service debris must be removed by the company. Note: the flyer says debris "does not need to be broken into multiple piles," which conflicts with the 2024 page.
