🗑️ Fort Lauderdale Trash Pickup

Who collects in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, how to find your pickup day, bulk item pickup, holiday delays and what it costs. Checked October 31, 2026.

⚡ Quick Answer

In Fort Lauderdale, residential trash is collected by WM (Waste Management), the City's environmental services provider. Pickup days depend on your address, so use the official lookup (MyGovernmentServices map (the City also calls it the Property Information Reporter)) to find yours. Questions: (954) 828-8000. Bulk item pickup: No charge is printed for a regular monthly bulk pile.

Checked October 31, 2026 against the city's and its hauler's own pages. We never print a pickup day for a whole city, because it changes by street.

🗓️ How Pickup Works

Find your pickup days on the City's MyGovernmentServices map or call the 24-hour Neighbor Support Center at 954-828-8000. Trash is collected twice a week, recycling once a week, yard waste once a week and bulk trash once a month on set neighborhood days. Set carts out by 7:00 AM on pickup day and no earlier than 6:00 PM the night before; remove them the same day. Keep carts at least 2 feet from other carts, cars, mailboxes, trees, storm drains and utility poles, and never in bike lanes. Collections run 7 am to 7 pm.

The City page says WM became the City's environmental services provider on July 31, 2023, collecting trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk trash. City residential service covers single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes; apartment, condo and commercial properties must contract directly with a licensed private hauler. Sanitation charges are billed by the City (Utility Billing).

🛋️ Bulk Item Pickup

  • 💵Cost: No charge is printed for a regular monthly bulk pile. For larger special pickups, "WM staff will measure the trash pile to determine the cubic yardage and price." "Service is provided once payment is received." No dollar amount is printed.
  • 📞How to book: Bulk trash is picked up once a month on specific days for each neighborhood (check the MyGovernmentServices map or call 954-828-8000). Place bulk at the curb by 7 a.m. on pickup day and no earlier than 24 hours in advance; items left out more than 24 hours before or after pickup could result in a City citation. Keep piles away from parked cars, fences, trees, power lines and storm drains. Single-family and multifamily accounts of three units or less are entitled to residential bulk service.
  • 📏Limits: "Items must be in a pile no larger than 10 cubic yards" (about 6 feet wide, 15 feet long and 3 feet high). Doors, sinks, toilets limited to two of each; rims and/or tires limited to four of each; wood fence limited to four sections; chain link fence limited to a 50-foot roll; hot tubs cut into 6-foot sections. Tree limbs up to 12 feet long and 12 inches in diameter; leaves bagged in a separate pile. Glass only in a rigid container. Construction debris is not accepted. Curbside tires: up to two passenger or light truck tires (up to 20 inches) beside the black cart on garbage day, up to four per household per year.

🌀 Hurricanes and Storm Debris

"All sanitation services are suspended when a Hurricane Warning is issued" and during a storm. "Do not put out bulk trash or yard waste when a Hurricane Watch or Warning has been issued." Before the season, remove dead trees, limbs, palm fronds and dead coconuts. After a storm, keep household garbage, recycling, yard waste and construction storm debris in separate piles; stage storm debris loose (not bagged) by type along the right-of-way, away from fences, mailboxes, poles, transformers, water meters, fire hydrants and storm drains; empty appliances. Emergency collection of storm debris occurs "within 70 hours after the storm allowing for emergency access." Crews will not enter private property. Hurricane Emergency Hotline: 954-828-8888.
